China's Changan Automobile Group and Germany's BorgWarner recently signed a "Joint Supercharger Development Project" agreement in Chongqing. The two parties will jointly establish a research and development center focused on developing next-generation, high-efficiency, low-noise, and highly reliable supercharger systems.
The project will leverage China's strengths in localized manufacturing and cost control with Germany's expertise in precision machining, rotordynamics simulation, and durability testing. The initial goal is to develop a compact supercharger module suitable for engines with a displacement of 2.0L or less, with mass production planned for 2026 and intended for use in a variety of domestically produced high-end vehicle models.
This collaboration is considered a model of deep collaboration between Chinese and foreign auto parts companies. Industry experts cite joint technology research and standards development as China's advancement from a major supercharger user to a technology exporter. In the future, the results of this collaboration are expected to expand into overseas markets, contributing to global competition in high-end powertrain systems.
